Responsible Dog Management & Park Safety

To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all visitors and their canine companions, all dog owners must adhere to the following guidelines regarding dog behaviour and legal compliance while accessing and using the park.

1. General Dog Control and Behaviour Within the Park

All dogs must be kept under control by their owners at all times while within the park premises. As the park accommodates a maximum of six dogs from up to two households, owners are solely responsible for their own dog(s) and for preventing them from causing any nuisance, harm, or fear to other dogs or individuals. To facilitate a harmonious and safe environment, we recommend the following responsible practices:

  • Your dog should ideally respond reliably to voice commands.
  • Owners are encouraged to intervene immediately if their dog displays any signs of aggression, excessive barking, or inappropriate behaviour.
  • Please exercise caution and manage your dog responsibly around other dogs and people, particularly children.

2. Maintaining a Clean Park

To ensure a clean and pleasant environment for all users, we operate a ‘see it, pick it up’ policy. While we expect owners to pick up their own dog’s waste, we kindly ask that if you spot any dog mess, you pick it up, regardless of whose dog it came from. This way, all waste will be collected and disposed of.

Similarly, please collect any litter or rubbish you find that could pose a risk to other animals (e.g., broken toys, bits of clothing, or general litter). A rubbish bin is provided in the parking area for disposal.

If you find an intact toy or piece of clothing, please leave it in the ‘lost and found’ basket in the shed. We want to help keep the fields clean and safe for everyone’s enjoyment.

3. Specific Guidelines for Legally Restricted Dog Types at the Park

The UK has specific legislation, including the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 (as amended), which applies across Great Britain and in Scotland, governing legally restricted dog types. For the safety and legal compliance of the park and its users, owners of dogs that are classified as banned types (such as Pit Bull Terrier types, Japanese Tosa types, Dogo Argentino types, and Fila Brasileiro types), or restricted types that require specific management (including XL Bully breeds), must comply with all relevant legal requirements and the specific park rules outlined below for access and use. Please be aware that the presence of a banned dog type within the park, without lawful exemption, will be reported to the appropriate authorities in accordance with UK legislation.

3.1 XL Bully Specific Rules

The following specific rules apply only to XL Bully dogs (referred to as “the dog” in this section, applying to each dog if multiple are present from the same household):

  • Certificate of Exemption: The dog must have a valid Certificate of Exemption and the owner must be able to produce it upon request when entering or using the park.
  • Muzzling During Transit: The dog must be wearing a muzzle while travelling to the Park in your vehicle and when being put back in the vehicle on exit of the Park.
  • Park Unleashed & Unmuzzled Policy: Once inside the secure, locked park area, the dog may be let out of the car off-lead and unmuzzled.
  • Household Dog Policy: The dog must only be run with other dogs from the same household. (This specific rule overrides our park-wide rule about a maximum of two households)
  • Handler Ratio: For each XL Bully dog present, there must be a 1:1 ratio of dog to handler (over 18 years of age) at all times within the park.
  • Insurance: The dog must be insured, including Public Liability cover valid for use of the private park.

4. Dogs Exhibiting Aggressive Behaviour

Regardless of breed or type, any dog that exhibits aggressive, unpredictable, or dangerous behaviour (e.g., unprovoked biting, attacking, or causing fear of injury to another dog or person) must be removed from the park immediately. Repeated incidents may result in a ban from future use of the facility. Owners are liable for any injury or damage caused by their dog.

5. Dog Owner Responsibility and Compliance with UK Legislation

By using the park, you confirm that you are aware of and will comply with all UK laws regarding dog ownership applicable in Scotland, including those pertaining to legally restricted breeds and types, as well as the specific park rules outlined above for park access and use. This includes, but is not limited to, the Control of Dogs (Scotland) Act 2010, ensuring your dog is microchipped and, if applicable, neutered in accordance with current Scottish Government regulations. Failure to comply with these terms, or any applicable law, may result in immediate expulsion from the park and/or legal action, as well as the reporting of non-compliance to relevant authorities.
