Terms & conditions

By using this park you agree and comply with all of the following terms and conditions.

Animals allowed to use the secure park are: dogs and cats. For any other species please contact us prior to booking.

Booking and Arrival

  • Please do not arrive for your session any more than five minutes before your time slot is due to commence.
  • Do not open any gates or enter the car park until all previous customers have left. You should park on the left-hand side of the access road leading to the access gate, leaving space for the previous user to leave.
  • Please ensure that when you open the gate you use the retaining latch to hold the gate open so as to prevent accidental damage to your vehicle or persons.
  • Please ensure that you close the gate properly behind you, using the slip bolt when you enter the park. You are responsible for making sure that the gate is secure.
  • All animals must remain in your vehicle until you are secured within the park.
  • Your animal remains your own responsibility whilst using the park including facilities and should not be left unattended.
  • The maximum number of animals in the park at any one time should not exceed six from a maximum of two households.
  • You cannot cancel appointments. You can reschedule your booking as many times as you require as long as there is not less than 24 hours before your session is due to start.
  • Please ensure that you leave the park promptly and within your allocated time.
  • When you are finished you must lock the gate and scramble the code on the lock.

Health and Safety

  • Puppies are welcome as long as they have received all of their puppy vaccinations.
  • If your animal has developed signs of kennel cough, sickness or diarrhoea in the past 72 hours, we request that you refrain from the use of our facilities. Please note that in the event your animal(s) present symptoms of the conditions previously listed, or any other condition or illness which can or is likely to pose a risk to the health and welfare of any other animals, field users or staff present then you, your animal and anyone accompanying you, will be asked to leave the field immediately and no monies will be refunded.
  • Please be sensible in the event of very hot weather. Animals should not be over exercised in excessive heat.

  • In case of an emergency, all emergency numbers are available in the shelter.
  • We have a strict no smoking/vaping policy in any enclosed structure and request that you use the ashbin provided, for disposal of butt ends.

Park Rules

  • You are responsible and must pick up your animal’s poo and place it in the bin provided. Our ‘poo policy’ is that if you see it, please pick it up. Given the size of the field, it is possible you may miss your animal’s poo, but we ask that you collect any poo you see, regardless of whose animal it came from. This way, all waste will be collected and we can keep the fields clean and poo free for everyone’s enjoyment. For more detailed guidance on dog behaviour and safety, please refer to our additional “Responsible Dog Management & Park Safety Policy” below.
  • Please discourage your animal(s) from making excessive noise whilst on site.
  • Do not allow your animal(s) to dig holes in the field.
  • Please take all balls and toys that you bring into the field away with you. If these have been chewed or broken, you must ensure that the field is cleaned up and all debris or litter are removed.
  • As part of your use and enjoyment of the secure field, you agree not to let anyone else into the secure fenced area, other than any friends or family members you have brought with you to enjoy walking your pets.
  • You accept that all equipment in the field is only for the use of the animals and you will not climb, play or stand on any of the equipment or permit anyone else to do so. Games such as golf and cricket are strictly forbidden in the field, as the field is for pets to play, not children.
  • As part of your use and enjoyment of the field, you agree not to enter any buildings or other parts of the premises, including any other areas of the fields. The surrounding fields are active farmland and under no circumstances should you enter the surrounding fields.
  • Please bring a torch or head lamp as our park is not lit in dark conditions.
  • Anyone found, or reported for, overstaying their slot or breaking any of these rules will be issued a warning and repeat offenders may be prohibited from future use of the field.

Liability and Your Responsibility

  • We will not be held responsible for any injury or illness contracted by any animal or person who uses our fields.
  • We accept no liability for any losses/damage, injury, illness or death to humans or animals suffered whilst using the facilities. You are advised to insure your pet for all eventualities.
  • By making a booking you accept that your use and enjoyment of the secure field, which includes the car park and access, is entirely at your own risk. You, the user, agree not to hold Brechin Dog Park liable for any injury to you, your family/friends or your animal(s) or damage to property, arising from your use of the secure field. The fenced section of the field is a large outdoor space, with the potential for areas of uneven ground or holes which could be concealed under long grass or other vegetation, and may from time to time have overhanging branches from trees around the edges which may fall or have fallen and could contain other hazards consistent with the countryside. Any incidence of such that causes or contributes to injury to you, your family, friends or your animals is not the liability of Brechin Dog Park.
  • You agree not to hold Brechin Dog Park responsible for any injury to you, your family, friends or your pets arising from your use of the equipment in the field.
  • In the event of bringing a friend or family member, or sending somebody in place of you, you agree that you assume responsibility for their safety and ensure that they abide by these terms and conditions at all times whilst using the field.
  • The fences and gate are regularly checked. However, as part of your use and enjoyment of the field you agree to be mindful of any holes or other damage to the fence or gate. Such damage may occur from time to time for various reasons, including digging by animals (which may cause an opening or breach in either the gate or fence), falling trees or branches and general wear and tear. If you become aware of, or observe, any issue with the condition of the fence or gate, please make us aware immediately so that we can alert other users and so that we can repair it as soon as possible. Brechin Dog Park cannot accept responsibility for any animal escaping the field through either the gate or fence, irrespective of whether this is a consequence of a defect in the fence or gate or whether we have notified you in advance or not.
  • Brechin Dog Park cannot be held liable for any injury to your animal(s) or for any injury or damage caused by your animal(s) in and around the premises. Brechin Dog Park will not be liable for any injury or damage sustained or caused by your animal in the event that the animal, for whichever reason, becomes untethered. This includes, but is in no way restricted to; your animal running wild in or out-with the car park or path, or suffering injury or harm on a nearby road, or being attacked by another animal.
  • As part of your use and enjoyment of the field you agree to abide by any applicable Laws and or Guidance issued by the Scottish Government or Local Authority to protect you and other users (including our staff) from infection and or transmission of COVID-19 or similar. You accept that you enter and use the field at your own risk. Brechin Dog Park will not accept liability for infection or transmission of COVID-19 or similar which occurs on their field or premises.

Responsible Dog Management & Park Safety

To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all visitors and their canine companions, all dog owners must adhere to the following guidelines regarding dog behaviour and legal compliance while accessing and using the park.

1. General Dog Control and Behaviour Within the Park

All dogs must be kept under control by their owners at all times while within the park premises. As the park accommodates a maximum of six dogs from up to two households, owners are solely responsible for their own dog(s) and for preventing them from causing any nuisance, harm, or fear to other dogs or individuals. To facilitate a harmonious and safe environment, we recommend the following responsible practices:

  • Your dog should ideally respond reliably to voice commands.
  • Owners are encouraged to intervene immediately if their dog displays any signs of aggression, excessive barking, or inappropriate behaviour.
  • Please exercise caution and manage your dog responsibly around other dogs and people, particularly children.

2. Maintaining a Clean Park

To ensure a clean and pleasant environment for all users, we operate a ‘see it, pick it up’ policy. While we expect owners to pick up their own dog’s waste, we kindly ask that if you spot any dog mess, you pick it up, regardless of whose dog it came from. This way, all waste will be collected and disposed of.

Similarly, please collect any litter or rubbish you find that could pose a risk to other animals (e.g., broken toys, bits of clothing, or general litter). A rubbish bin is provided in the parking area for disposal.

If you find an intact toy or piece of clothing, please leave it in the ‘lost and found’ basket in the shed. We want to help keep the fields clean and safe for everyone’s enjoyment.

3. Specific Guidelines for Legally Restricted Dog Types at the Park

The UK has specific legislation, including the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 (as amended), which applies across Great Britain and in Scotland, governing legally restricted dog types. For the safety and legal compliance of the park and its users, owners of dogs that are classified as banned types (such as Pit Bull Terrier types, Japanese Tosa types, Dogo Argentino types, and Fila Brasileiro types), or restricted types that require specific management (including XL Bully breeds), must comply with all relevant legal requirements and the specific park rules outlined below for access and use. Please be aware that the presence of a banned dog type within the park, without lawful exemption, will be reported to the appropriate authorities in accordance with UK legislation.

3.1 XL Bully Specific Rules

The following specific rules apply only to XL Bully dogs (referred to as “the dog” in this section, applying to each dog if multiple are present from the same household):

  • Certificate of Exemption: The dog must have a valid Certificate of Exemption and the owner must be able to produce it upon request when entering or using the park.
  • Muzzling During Transit: The dog must be wearing a muzzle while travelling to the Park in your vehicle and when being put back in the vehicle on exit of the Park.
  • Park Unleashed & Unmuzzled Policy: Once inside the secure, locked park area, the dog may be let out of the car off-lead and unmuzzled.
  • Household Dog Policy: The dog must only be run with other dogs from the same household. (This specific rule overrides our park-wide rule about a maximum of two households)
  • Handler Ratio: For each XL Bully dog present, there must be a 1:1 ratio of dog to handler (over 18 years of age) at all times within the park.
  • Insurance: The dog must be insured, including Public Liability cover valid for use of the private park.

4. Dogs Exhibiting Aggressive Behaviour

Regardless of breed or type, any dog that exhibits aggressive, unpredictable, or dangerous behaviour (e.g., unprovoked biting, attacking, or causing fear of injury to another dog or person) must be removed from the park immediately. Repeated incidents may result in a ban from future use of the facility. Owners are liable for any injury or damage caused by their dog.

5. Dog Owner Responsibility and Compliance with UK Legislation

By using the park, you confirm that you are aware of and will comply with all UK laws regarding dog ownership applicable in Scotland, including those pertaining to legally restricted breeds and types, as well as the specific park rules outlined above for park access and use. This includes, but is not limited to, the Control of Dogs (Scotland) Act 2010, ensuring your dog is microchipped and, if applicable, neutered in accordance with current Scottish Government regulations. Failure to comply with these terms, or any applicable law, may result in immediate expulsion from the park and/or legal action, as well as the reporting of non-compliance to relevant authorities.
